School Dinners
St George’s C of E Primary School offers a cooked meal service. Food is prepared off-site by Caterlink and includes a main meal with vegetarian and jacket potato options also available. Under the new government initiative, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free dinner. For older children, lunches currently cost £2.61 per day.
Lunches can be booked weekly or termly and paid for in advance. The cut off date for books is the Wednesday the week prior to the start of meal provisions. Parents providing their child’s own packed lunch are encouraged to send a healthy and balanced packed lunch containing no fizzy drinks, sweets, or chocolate. Parents who receive income support are eligible for free school meals. Please contact the office for further details.
St George's is also proud to be a nut free school.

Snacks
In an effort to provide the necessary five daily portions of fruit and vegetables, we encourage all children to have a snack of pure fruit (dried or fresh) or raw vegetables during morning break. The school is also part of the fruit and vegetable scheme, and as such a daily piece of fruit is available for infants at break time free of charge.
As a school, we are committed to promoting healthy eating habits and would like to remind families that any snack brought in for children to enjoy at breaktime should be a healthy choice.
Examples of suitable snacks include:
- Fresh fruit (e.g. apples, bananas, grapes, satsumas)
- Chopped vegetables (e.g. carrot sticks, cucumber, pepper strips)
- Cheese portions, cheese strings or Babybel-style snacks
- Plain crackers, breadsticks or rice cakes
- Yoghurts, fromage frais pots or yoghurt tubes (e.g. Frubes)
- Please do not send:
- Chocolate bars or chocolate-coated snacks
- Sweets
- Cakes, doughnuts, muffins or pastries
- Crisps and other heavily salted snacks
- Sugary cereal bars
As an allergy-aware school, the safety of all children is a priority. We ask all parents and carers to carefully check snacks before sending them into school to ensure they do not contain nuts or other ingredients that could present a risk to children with allergies. Checking packaging and ingredient lists before items are packed is a simple but important way to help us keep all children safe.
Thank you for your support in promoting healthy choices and maintaining a safe environment for everyone.

Milk is available free to children under the age of five and at a cost of around 20p for all other children. Parents can register online at Cool Milk for Schools.
All children are encouraged to bring a bottle of water to school (in a sports-top bottle to prevent spillages) which they should keep in their class to ensure regular hydration and therefore high concentration levels. Children can top up their bottle during break and lunch times.
Parents sometimes want to celebrate a special occasion (a birthday for example) by sending in sweets and cakes. Unfortunately, we are not in a position to be able to give these out ourselves and would ask that, if they so wish, parents give them out themselves on the playground as the children come out at the end of the day (checking with each child’s parents first in case of allergies/intolerances etc).
